Thyroid or also known as thyroid gland is generally at the front of the neck. Thyroid gland is an endocrine gland (gland which secrete hormones directly in the blood) and is in butterfly shape.

Hormones that generate in gland affect the metabolism or heart rate also. There are two hormones that are generated in thyroid gland: triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4) are created from iodine and tyrosine.

Any changes in thyroid gland affect the other body parts and also the production of thyroid hormones.

Symptoms of Thyroid Disease

1. Changes in Weight

Change in body weight is most common symptom of thyroid disease. In one condition Hypothyroidism: You may gain weight because of low level of thyroid hormones.

In other condition Hyperthyroidism: You may lose weight because of high level of thyroid hormones.

2. Neck Enlargement

Enlargement of neck is visible sign of thyroid disease. This is due to the lump in thyroid gland. Swelling in neck is common in both hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism. Neck enlargement can also be possible cause of thyroid cancer.

3. Fluctuation in Heart Rate

Changes in thyroid hormones affect the body’s part and the heart rate also. In hypothyroidism: Heart rate is slower than usual but in hyperthyroidism: Heart rate goes speed up.

4. Loss of Hair
